Torchy’s Tacos

Torchy’s Tacos

Finding vegan options can be difficult at any Tex-Mex or taco joint, as most dishes incorporate meat or lard and are topped with cheese. Thankfully, Torchy’s does have some options for those who are trying to avoid meat and any dairy products.

If you’ve never had the privilege of visiting a Torchy’s, let me say that it is a hip dining experience that features a variety of dishes including tacos, chips and dip, salads, burritos, and more. On top of all that, they also have a great selection of dipping sauces and beverages.

So if you’re vegan or plant-based, or just trying to cut back on the meat and dairy, here are our top options for dining at Torchy’s! And as a vegetarian, you’ll find all these options suitable with no substitutions or modifications.

1. Chips and Guacamole

Torchy’s Chips are fantastic and pair perfectly with their house guacamole. Just make sure to request no cheese topping on the guacamole, as it comes with cheese as a default.

2. The Mofaux

If your Tochy’s location offers the Mofaux taco, you’re in for the treat as this spicy and flavorful vegan option features beyond beef steak style slices, green chiles, corn, peppadew peppers, fresh avocado, cilantro, and diablo sauce.

3. Fried Avacado

A delicious taco with a large dollop of fried avocado right in the center, topped with refried pinto beans, pico, and lettuce. Since the fried avocado and pinto beans are not vegan, you’ll want to substitute the fried avocado for fresh avocado and skip on the refried beans.

4. The Fo Sho

We found that the Torchy’s location in Tyler, TX features this meatless taco that includes refried beans, avocado, grilled onions and peppers, and rice topped with grilled corn relish, crispy onions and cilantro. All doused in diablo sauce, you’ll want to customize this taco to make it vegan by skipping out on the refried beans. We’ve tried this one ourselves and have found it to be a delicious choice every single time. Pairs great with the chips and guacamole!

In addition to the entree options above, Torchy’s also offers a few vegan friendly sauces including:

  • Avacado Sauce
  • Diablo Sauce
  • Poblano Sauce

All of Torchy’s beverage options (aside from their bottled milk offering) are vegan and include a variety of lemonades, sodas, and alcoholic beverages.

The ordering process and request for entree customization is simple at Torchy’s. We have always found their staff to be helpful and willing to answer any questions and work with our modification requests. Not feeling the spicy? Ask for the sauce to be on the side instead, or opt for a milder sauce.

The good news is that if you’re in for a taco or Tex-Mex style dish, there are vegan and plant-based options for you at Torchy’s. Unfortunately, none of their breakfast options or desserts are vegan or plant-based. These restrictions aside, we still find Torchy’s to be a good choice among the plethora of Tex-Mex and taco joints found throughout the state.
